The effectiveness of a student’s study skills can mean the difference between failure and success. Many students who want to learn have difficulty in school, often because they do not know how to learn. Even bright students can be hampered by poor study skills when they reach courses that challenge their abilities. Knowing the best strategies for studying makes learning more enjoyable and strengthens confidence. By showing students the best methods and techniques for test-taking, time management and organization, we give them the competitive edge they need to succeed in school and beyond.
This program is especially valuable for the middle school or high school student trying to manage an increasing workload. Academic Center’s Study Skills program is personalized, so students can start any time.
Throughout our study skills program we encourage students to bring in their book bag with agenda, notebooks, and textbooks, in order to start applying proper study habits to their personal materials and assignments.
Our study skills program covers several key areas:
- Organization and time management, including assignment and grade tracking, organization of papers, binders and personal study area, study planning and goal setting
- Note-taking, covering everything from listening well and following directions, to managing, presenting, and organizing information, to practical note taking
- Reading and studying, including using notes effectively, handling textbooks, reading strategies across school subjects, researching and writing reports, and subject-specific study techniques
- Test-taking strategies, including how to approach different test question formats, including multiple choice and essay, and how to overcome test anxiety
